GeIL PC 3200 Value DDR RAM

Page 3 Performance

01/13/06

Performance:

Performance when dealing with memory can be looked at from a few aspects. First and foremost is speed or the ability to make the PC perform well. Second and less thought of is reliability or how stable is this product can. We are going to try and cover both of these very important aspects and give a good expectation of the GeIL product. What we will do first is compare GeIL's performance against a few competitors. Now keep in mind some of these products are performance / High priced memory. The reason we use these products to compare is so you can really see what you are paying for. Is the Value product of GeIL more then adequate performance wise when compared to the higher priced performance stuff. We will be using some synthetic benchmarks along with real world usage / game play to measure the performance in the portion..

The second aspect of performance, Reliability is a bit tougher to measure especially in a short amount of testing time. So what we did was let this memory run nonstop in a machine for two weeks during that time we ran some benchmarks and played some games used a synthetic web surfer utility to simulate browsing and then recorded any time the PC either errors or seemed t slow down requiring a reboot. I am very pleased to say during that entire time the PC was only rebooted once and that was not due to a lock up or performance issue it was to move the actual PC. So though we would like to run this test for say two or three months that is not reasonable for these article publications.

Modular test benchmark results

PassMark is a benchmarking software company that has some really great tools. We are using the PerformenceTest 6.0 for this set of results the software is very easy to use and is a great comparison utility for new products.

As you can see from our results GeIL did not perform the best but we did not expect that the focus of these tests where to look at a products expected to perform better and to see it the cost conscious consumer would do alright by purchasing this product. We compared the GeIl Value RAM to some Low Latency OCZ memory along with some Value 1 gig chips from ADATA in all test you can see GeIL does a pretty good job of holding its Owen when using BySPD setting on our test machine. There is a significant increase when you take advantage of the high praised performance memory in Auto adjust mode but at a steep cost to the consumer.

The PC mark results helped confirm that the GeIL PC3200 2x512 sticks perform as well as the high end memory when using SPD settings what this means is if you are not planning on messing with the BIO's or if you want a decent stable set of RAM the GeIL value is a very good buy at 38 USD per 512 chip these modules perform better then expected for the price.

So when you add the durability with the performance and factor in the price in my opinion this is a great product and overall performance form the aspects we tested is solid. Very little could be view negatively throughout the testing process..
