Kensington USB Laser PilotMouse
04/29/06 Page 3 Performance, Quality & Conclusion
Performance: With devices like mice it is not easy to rate performance using methods like static benchmarking tools or software and to be honest when it comes right down to it you need to rely on your senses. What I mean is how do you rate the performance of a device like this. What we did was hooked up several types of mice everything from wired Microsoft to wireless Logitech and even ball mice not just laser. To be fare we tried to keep the comparison products around the same price range. First thing the needs to be pointed out Kensington uses a different style of laser mouse most people are used to the red LED flashing in the bottom but Kensington's new desktop mouse is not like that they use 2400hz technology to make the response even more responsive. Overall after using the Kensington side by side with the Microsoft Intel mouse wired USB, two of the wireless Logitech M series and even the Logysis fan mouse all where slightly less responsive. Add this with the On Off switch to reduce battery usage when not using the PC the overall performance was top notch. Please note you will not get all the extra thumb buttons or wheel buttons like Logitech has but for man people the actual use of the extra buttons is minimal and response is more important. It all depends on what you are looking for in an input device.. Kensington does however provide a side to side scroll it takes a bit to get used to but its a neat little extra. Another aspect we found impressive was the actual distance the mouse was active communicating at. we went to around ten feet this and to be honest it is rated fro further but to be honest why would anyone need there mouse to work any further away then that even in an office or presentation where you need a device further away from the PC this mouse will work very well..
Quality: As always Kensington made a quality product as well. the plastics and construction are solid the mouse is heavy enough to feel solid but light enough to glide easily. The only thing I can see a problem with is the grip on the side of the USB connector in time I will bet they might peal off not that this is a big factor this wont effect performance of the product. All in all it is more then satisfactory.
Pros: Performance Installation Multiple OS plug n Play usage Comes with batteries On / Off switch is a great Idea
Cons: No extra buttons could be a down side for some users Price is a bit high for a mouse but the performance sometime out ways the price. Conclusion: If you need a very responsive portable mouse look no furthered. If you are professional that hate the laptop touch pad or a gamer that wants no restrictive quality response Kensington made a great little tool for the job. I can honestly say the comfort and quality of this mouse rivals all other products I have tried.. As long as you don't mind spending a little more for a great product this mouse will do the job and then some.. We are pleased to award Kensington with or Blue Ribbon seal of Approval for a great all around input device. Congratulations Kensington another fine product.
