OCZ 420watt "ModStream" PSU Page 2 Installation & Appearance 08/26/05
Installation: The installation of a power supply has been covered many times before so we will keep that part light and focus on the special features OCZ has provided.. One of the main advantages of this product is primarily an installation function. At the base of the PSU there are several 4-pin male Molex connectors that allow the consumer to only use what cables are needed freeing up allot of unwanted space and cabling inside the PC. OCZ has provided a ample amount of cables for all power requirements everything from 12v Molex to SATA specific solutions. These cables are 1-2-3 install it cant get much easier bellow are some photos showing just that.. Also OCZ has provided a number of cable harnesses and zip ties to help with wire management allowing the consumer to bundle all the cables in use clean and compact.
Another important aspect to note about the ModStream power supply is compatibility. This unit will work for any product past and present. The cabling provided work for SATA, standard 4-pin 12v, Floppy, and even the new PCI-e power everything a person will need no mater what type of PC manufacturer or parts a consumer uses.
One last thing I thought I should mention pertaining the installation. OCZ is one of the first to make their 24-pin motherboard both BTX and ATX compatible. The way they do this is almost ingenuous. Rather then provide and extra cable they use a two piece connector that separates when using a board that only requires the 24-pin. Great Idea OCZ hope other catch on...
Appearance:
The overall appearance is well done everything from the packaging to the UV reactive units. OCZ has done their best to make the ModStream not only functional but nice to look at as well. They provide UV reactive cabling along with terminals in the 420W unit we have the color schema is a charcoal metallic look with blue UV everywhere else. Even the 120mm fan gives of a very nice glow. OCZ does have some other colors to choose from and sizes as well making them very compatible to whatever looks you are trying to achieve.
