Spire NeonBar II Blue Cold Cathode Review By Ludic 02/15/05
Spire makes just about everything a person could want to either spice up or mod out a person's PC. Lighting is no exception "Spire" has a full line of Cold Cathode light kits. We are going to take a closer look at their blue version the "NeonBar II Blue Cold Cathode". As long as this product works as well or better then their competitors and is at a reasonable price then this product will get a big thumbs up. Lets look a bit closer to see what kind of lighting kit this is.
Specs:
Installation: Installation of the Spire CCFL was standard, you have a rear slot cover with a power switch, a power inverter, and the light itself to put in the case. Using the included Velcro strips, I mounted the 12” light to the bottom of the case, adjacent to the window. I then taped the power inverter to the back of the case, and was able to guide the wires out of the way of the window. Upon firing up the machine, the light shone very brightly, and was very pleasing to this reviewer. Since the review unit happened to match the color scheme of the case, I was very pleased with the results.
Performance: After running with the light on continuously for a couple of days, I was happy to notice no degradation in the light, it was still as bright as when it was installed. There have been no issues, and I have only positive things to say about Spire’s light.
Quality: With the large numbers of companies making CCLK now a days quality is tuff to talk about considering there really isn't much to a light kit, and as long as the kit doesn't overheat and the bulb last the time expected then you cant expect much else.. In this situation "Spire" rates this light kit out at 15 thousand life hours of use meaning that you will probably get rid of the PC or case before this bulb will blow, So I would say this is a quality product but the only real test is to let it run for the 15 thousand hours.. I'll get back to you on that one, /joking of course..
Pros: Easy install. Nice color. Quality Product. Price is very competitive. Cons: Nothing to speak of. Conclusion: I highly recommend this product to those modders out there looking for a CCLK to put in their case or anyone that just wants to spice up a window case for a very good price. If the market wasn't so saturated with a number of companies making very similar products we might have giving this a 6 star rating but due to the multitude of competitors we could not in good faith. I just wanted to make that clear considering we had no negative remarks but yet our editor choice rating was not given in this situation. Spire gets a 5 out of 6 awarding them our Marns CDA Blue Ribbon Seal of Approval, for their CCLK for a quality product selling at a very good price..
Rating: 5 out of 6 Stars
