XG Extreme Gamer Sponsored By CrazyPC.com
Reviewed 10-24-04 CrazyPC.com also provided us to review XG's CCF Dual Lighting Kit this month. One should know there are many lighting kit manufacturers out there, so don't expect any groundbreaking news. This kit appears good at first glance so let us take a look.
Price: The Price at CrazyPC.com is $11.99. This is a pretty standard price for this type of product. You might find it a bit cheaper or a bit more expensive, but 11.99 is a good price. To buy click Here Specs:
Features
These kits also come in a few other colors so if red isn't what you want, then I am sure CrazyPC.com has another color to suit your project.
Installation Below you can see the inverter. This consists of 2 jacks for the lights and one for the switch and power unit.
Placement is a personal preference. You can use the 2- sided Velcro strips to pretty much put it anywhere in the case that you want. The switch is pretty nice. Some companies will give you a back IO card mount but XG has gone all out with the use of a pushbutton switch. I didn't perform this part of the install, as this product is going to our member contest. Thus, I will not be drilling any holes in this case.
All in all the install is pretty easy. Even though there is little explanation of the install on the packaging, most modders should have no problem hooking this kit up. Even the most novice skilled PC modder should be ok. Appearance As you can see in the pictures below, these lights do a fine job lighting up the entire inside of the case. Not much else to say but " oooohhhh I feel all warm and fuzzy..." Heh!
Performance Well, it's a light kit, if you have seen one you have seen them all. The performance is what I expected, standard operating procedure/specs. Quality Definitely good quality, but in the performance section, there isn't much of a difference between light kits. This product is solid, it seems to be well construction wise as most light kits I have seen. Durability: seeing this will not be going into my case but is being provided as a give away for the Marns CDA contest on our message board, I will not be able to see how well it holds up over long periods of time. Hmmm, maybe I will ask the winner to check in with us in a month or so. Pros This is a fan kit plain and simple. The CCFL is a solid, well- rounded light kit but there are a ton out in the market. Cons Not a bad little light kit. Nothing to jump up and down about but it works. This product does what it is intended to, and is well-made. Conclusion XG made a solid lighting kit. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the CCFL light kit doesn't set itself to stand out from the other manufacturers, I can't give this kit anymore then a 4 out of 6 stars. Now this means that it more then meets our approval standards, but does not have that extra something to make it special. I do, however, recommend this product more then most. I find this product to be a good buy.
