ABIT AX8 Aspine PC
Well this repair should be a no brainier and yup its my brothers main. Let me give you the low down. It sounds like he has some funny power at this home because I just got his other PC a bit ago with some hardware failures. This is a good indication of either power outages or inconsistent power going into the PC. I hope he is using a surge protector but sometimes that does not help. The second issue I see is dust. This case has several fans all seem to help keep the PC cool but every opening has dust pilled on. I gave him a good talking to and told him to clean that our regularly to help prolong the hardware’s life. Now for the actual issue. The ABIT series of 939 motherboard all have a digital readout to indicate and issue or where the board stops on post. This PC stopped at 8.3 that is ATX power Supply ready. This tells me it is most like you guessed it the Power Supply. So I hooked up another PSU I use for testing and the board posted a bit further but still no video. Also I noticed a few Beeps on post. Now I could have went and search to find out the sequence of beeps meaning but considering there was no video and the board did start to post I just swapped out video card. Sure enough that was the ticket. This PC is back up and running in no time just need to order him a new PCU and see what type of vide card he wants. Currently he is using a Sapphire X700 PCI-e card I do have a stock X700 ATI card but the Sapphire model was a bit better so for now he can use my tester card and tester PSU until the PSU arrives and he decides what card he wants to buy. When my brother first had me build this PC over almost 2 years ago we went the X700 cause they where new he might decide to go withy NVIDIA or the X1000 series line of ATI. My guess is his decision will be base on cost. Time to do some research I will let you know what we find out and his finial choice soon.
